Previews Blogging: May Marvel Edition
17 May 2010
Every month, I go through Diamond's Previews to figure out what I want. From now until, I will blog about what I see that catches my attention. Keep in mind that most of my comic buying consist of #1s, collected editions (hardcovers or TPBs), or OGN (original graphic novels). I buy #1s to see if it's something that I will get later in a collected edition.
I start with Marvel because I buy a fair amount of Marvel and they are outside the main book in their own little booklet. When Marvel joins the rest of Previews, then they will cease to be first

Deadpool... Deadpool ... Deadpool... he seems to be everywhere. Let's see how many covers feature a Deadpool character.
Page 13: The Marvelous Land of Oz #8 (of 8)
I've been very much looking forward to the end of this series because the end of the mini series means that the HC is on its way very soon. Young and Shanower have a synergy on these books that's hard to duplicate. as long as they are adapting the OZ books, I will be buying the hardcovers.
Page 14: Sky Doll: Lacrima Chrisit #1 (of 2)
Like all Soleil books, I'm waiting for this one in trade. I imagine that Marvel will collect this 2 issues mini series with the previous 2 issue mini series.
Page 35: Avengers: The Children's Crusade #1 (of 9)
I'm a big fan of the West Coast Avengers which is where the (Vision and) Scarlet Witch's kids were done away with. I'm a big fan of Young Avengers which is where the Wiccan and Speed were hinted at being the kids of Scarlet Witch (and Vision). I'm a huge fan of Jimmy Cheung and wishes Marvel would give him more sequential work (he's been doing a lot of covers lately), so I'm the perfect fan for this series which is apparently Wiccan's search for his true parentage, includes Scarlet Waitch AND is drawn by Jimmy Cheung. My only worry is when will it be complete. The 9 issues are scheduled to be bi-monthly, so that's 18 months. Scheduling issues will push it back to 10 months. So join my here in about 3 years when then collection is finally released.
Page 45: Franken-Castle #19
Not a Punisher fan and I think Franken-Castle is just a dumb idea. However, my good buddy Mike Hawthorne is drawing it  AND it's written by Rick Remender (as all the Frank-Castle issues have been). I'm not going to spend any time reading it, but you should.
Page 51: Hawkeye and Mockingbird #2
Hawkeye, Mockingbird and PHANTOM RIDER!!!! How can a WCA fan NOT read this book (even if it is a female Phantom Rider).
Page 57: Steve Rodgers: Super Soldier #1
My fear is that the main line Steve Rodgers will become more and more like the Ultimate line Steve Rodgers. Marvel rarely keeps its characters out of their original identities for too ling, but if this new series does well, then maybe we will continue to see Rodgers outside the Captain America uniform.
Page 73: X-women #1
I'm not sure what the appeal of having Milo Manara work on the X-men is... especially if it's not a mature book, but it could be interesting.
Page 78: Casanova #1
I'm loving Ba and Moon on Day Tripper. I'm vaguely interested in Casanova, so I think I'll grab this first issue and see if I'll be interested in the later collection.
Page 84: Squadron Supreme by Mark Gruenwald Omnibus HC
This book has  2 things against it.
1) I hate the Omnibus format. It's just too many pages to read comfortably.
2) I hate adding a creator's name to the collection.
But I'm still thinking about. However, I believe I already have all the reprinted material in TPB format.
Page 99: Captain America: Two Americas Premiere HC
I've been slowly getting all the HCs of the Brubaker Captain America run, so I guess this should be added to the pile as well.
Page 100: Agents of Atlas Va Premiere HC
These are 2 UGLY covers. I'm not sure why Ramos is doing superhero covers, but please stop it. The characters look awkward and the compositions are bad. I like Ramos, but please put a stop to his superhero covers.
... and that's all she wrote for the Marvel's Previews. Join me back here for the rest of Previews.
