Previews Blogging: June Edition
4 June 2011
Every month, I go through Diamond's Previews to figure out what I want. From now until, I will blog about what I see that catches my attention. Keep in mind that most of my comic buying consist of #1s, collected editions (hardcovers or TPBs), or OGN (original graphic novels). I buy #1s to see if it's something that I will get later in a collected edition.

This covers everything that caught my eye in this month's Previews for items shipping in August.

Marvel Previews
Page 6: Fear Itself: Youth in revolt #4 (of 7)
I was first introduced to Mike Norton's work from his work on the Image issues of The Badger. Shortly after that, I met him at a convention and we've been friends ever since. We don't see each other as often any more, but I love the growth that his career has taken over the decade that I have known of him. I believe I met him right around the time he started working with Sean McKeever on the Waiting Place as I remember him introducing me to McKeever and Jason Alexander at the Mid Ohio Con the same year I met him. It's always a treat to see McKeever and Norton working together on a project. Even better when it's project at Marvel or DC.

Page 29: Avengers: The Children's Crusade #7 (of 9)
Jimmy Cheung's art is what brought me to this title, but it's Heinberg's story about the twins and Scarlet Witch that keeps me coming back. I was a big fan of the West coast Avengers during the run by John Byrne where the true nature of Scarlet Witch's twins was revealed.

Page 30: Captain America and Bucky #621
I'm a fan of Brubaker's run on Cap. It's has me reading Cap for the first time since Waid and Kubert. I like Chris Samnee's art. I'm sold on this new direction and look forward to the collected edition because it won't have this ugly McGuinness cover.

Page 57: Mystic #1 (of 4)
I was a fan of CrossGen and especially Marz and Chueng on Scion. When Disney purchased Marvel, I looked forward to the return of CrossGen. However, the execution overall has been underwhelming. The covers held promise, but the interiors have been weak. Marvel is not giving these projects the treatment needed to relaunch the concepts even when they brought the original creators back to the books (Ruse). I'll pass until I see a Scion book with Marz and Cheung.

Page 74: The Stand: The Night Has Come 31 (of 6)
Marvel continues the series of mini-series for the adaptation of the Stand. I'm not sure why they chose this route over a continuing series, but I'm still buying the collected editions as they are released. I can't wait until it's done to read the whole thing once again.

Page 89: OZ: Ozma of Oz HC
As long as Young and Shanower are making these OZ adaptations, I'm buying them.

Previews Main
Dark Horse
Page 24: Hellboy Volume 11: The Bridge of Hell and Others TP
I used to own ever last Hellboy TPB, but ever since Dark Horse started releasing the Hellboy Library hardcovers I've been patiently waiting for them to catch up to the newer series that I haven't read yet. I'm still patiently waiting.

Page 25: Hellboy: the Fury #3
Page 33: Star Wars: Jedi-The Dark Side #4
Mahmud Asrar worked with me on Warmageddon covers. H's work at DC and Marvel and has now made his way to Star Wars at Dark Horse.

Page 39: Conan: Road of Kings #7
My buddy Mike Hawthorne on conan is a dream come true. This art of this series has been a nice break from the veer towards Frazetta realism that existed for most of the new Conan books.

Page 51: Creepy Archives Volume 11 HC, Space Family Robinson Volume 2
I'm still a big fan of the Warren reprint series at Dark Horse. The reproduction quality is second to none. With Space Family Robinson, I think more pepole would be inclined to by it, if it was marketed it as Lost in Space.

Page 106: The Spirit #17
I hope DC releases a collection of the all the black and white Spirit material.

Page 112: Legends of the Dark Knight - Marshall Rogers HC
For me, this is a definitive most have Batman tale. I own it in TPB and gladly add it to my HC collection.

Page 124: The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen Omnibus HC
Page 126: 100 Bullets Book One HC
I held out on this series waiting for the HCs. I'm a happy man now.

Page 127: Fables: Werewolves of the Heartland HC

IDW Publishing
Page 138-139 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Ongoing #1, TMNT : The Ultimate Collection Vol 1 HC
I'm happy to see the TMNT back in comic format. I'm een happier to see the originals return in HC format.

Page 159: Creed: Omnichronos
I was a big Creed fan in the mid 1990s. I still own all the early issues. The only thing that would make me happier is if this was a hardcover.

Image Comics
Savage Dragon #175
I think I'm done with Dragon until I can get the series in a nice HC collection. I realize that Erik loves the sing issue format, but having that many single issues isn't the way I want to read my comics.

Sweets: A New Orleans Crime Story TP
Hey, Kody, can I get this in a hardcover? That's what I've been really waiting for.

Page 273: The Living Corpse: Exhumed #1, The Living Corpse Omnibus TPB (Dynamite)
Ken and Buz are good friends of mine and I've been sold on this series since they started it many years ago.

And with that. I bring this month's Previews to a close.

Previews Blogging: November Edition
15 November 2010
Every month, I go through Diamond's Previews to figure out what I want. From now until, I will blog about what I see that catches my attention. Keep in mind that most of my comic buying consist of #1s, collected editions (hardcovers or TPBs), or OGN (original graphic novels). I buy #1s to see if it's something that I will get later in a collected edition.

This covers everything that caught my eye in this month's Previews.

Marvel Previews
Page 7: The Stand: No Man's Land #1
I still look forward to this series. Only Marvel could make me spend $25 a mini series for a prose book that I could get for less then $15.

Page 15: Avengers: The Children's Crusade

Page 72: Casanova Vol 1: Luxuria TPB
I'm hoping for a hardcover of this series. It looks as if one may have been considered so maybe there is still hope.

Page 96: Hawkeye and Mockingbird: Ghosts TPB
Just as I expected this series lasted one storyline. I'm happy to add this storyline to my bookcase and hope for more H&M.

Page 97: Kookaburra K TPB
Apparently, I missed this in hardcover format, so now it's time to track in down.

I really want to see this in a hardcover. I'll buy this as a TPB.

Previews Blogging: October Edition
10 November 2010
Every month, I go through Diamond's Previews to figure out what I want. From now until, I will blog about what I see that catches my attention. Keep in mind that most of my comic buying consist of #1s, collected editions (hardcovers or TPBs), or OGN (original graphic novels). I buy #1s to see if it's something that I will get later in a collected edition.

This covers everything that caught my eye in this month's Previews.

Marvel Previews
Page 98: Captain America: Zemo Premiere HC
Page 112: Marvels: Eye of the Camera TPB
Page 113: Thor Vs Seth, the Serpent God TPB
I remember when this story was being run through Thor with a side story in West Coast Avengers. I read both of those monthly titles at the time and look forward to being able to read through this story again.

That's it for Marvel, so let's move on to the main Previews book.

Dark Horse
Page 27: BPRD: Plague of Frogs Volume 1
This is what I've been waiting for to place beside my Hellboy hardcovers. I can't wait to finally read these BPRD stories.

Page 32: Conan : The Road of Kings #1 (of 6)
Since this is part of the regular Conan series, I will be buying it in collected format which I hope will include the same HC format that the previous Conan stories have been in. I wanted to mention this because this is Mike Hawthorne's debut on the Conan book AND it's written by Roy Thomas.

Page 34: Robert E. Howard's Savage Sword #1
80 pages, full color perfect bound for $8. It's an ongoing anthology, but even with Howard characters I don't expect this to last more then 12 issues especially with recolored older stories.

Page 35: The Savage Sword of Conan Volume 9
Page 38: Mighty Samson #1
Page 48: Age of Reptiles: Omnibus Volume 1
Age of Reptiles is an amazing series of stories about dinosaur. The individual collections of the series are very hard to come by. I've been lucky enough to find them both. This collection includes those series AND the newly completed series. I'm not a big fan of the Omnibus format, but I'm getting this.

DC Comics
Page 104: Bayou Vol 2 TP
Outside of Vertigo books, my DC reading is non-existent. This Zuda comic is my only DC book for this month.

Image Comics
Page 181: Savage Dragon Archives Volume 3 TP
Page 190: Savage Dragon #167
Savage Dragon is the only Image series that I read consistently month to month. There are several that I read in collected edition, but Savage Dragon is the only one that I read month and month out.

And that's it for this month.... yep, no smaller publisher for me. That's a first in a long time.
